Paneveggio Natural Park

From breathtaking views to the trenches of the First World War

Paneveggio Natural Park comprises 197km2 of green forests, glacial lakes, rivers and mountain meadows all framed by the beautiful rose pink mountains of the Pale di San Martino as well as a portion of the Lagorai chain.

The Norway spruce forests of the park not only provide the wood used in the world famous Stradivarius violins (hence the name “The Forest of the Violins’) but the trees also provide shelter and food for mountain goats, chamois and roe deer.

As well as experiencing the park’s wildlife at first hand you can learn more about its trees, plants and animals at the visitor centre in Paneveggio itself, just a 10 minute drive from the hotel on the Passo Rolle – Predazzo road.  Near the visitor centre is a museum explaining why the wood from the spruce forest is so suited to violin production as well as a guided nature trail with information points, observation spots and a deer enclosure, ideal for families and children

Also of interest are numerous trenches and caves constructed by the Italian and Austrian armies during the First World War which are accessible by ski-lift from Passo Rolle.
